“What is this?” she asked. “Alex, we’re supposed to be taking pictures.”

Alexander stood at the far end of the table.

“I need to ask you something.”

Valerie gave a small laugh. “Two hours of nerves and now you want a serious talk?”

“One question.”

“Fine,” she said.
