When sacrifice turns into silent awakening

Maria came home one weekend to surprise me. Found me studying, brow furrowed, struggling through a question.

She grinned and said, “Look at you, Mama. About to be the smartest woman in the room.”

I laughed. “Watch out. I’m catching up to you.”
